VIDEO: The Rock makes surprise appearance at telescope protest in Hawaii
Hollywood actor Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson joined a demonstration against the $1.4 billion Thirty Meter Telescope on a mountain considered sacred by some native Hawaiians Wednesday. Dancers performed hula and chants as Johnson made his surprise appearance at the protest site on the volcano Mauna Kea. 'I stand with you,' Johnson told a crowd at the protest, which is in its 10th day. Johnson is of Samoan descent and spent part of his childhood in Hawaii's capital Honolulu. The protests began on July 15, the day the construction of the massive telescope was scheduled to begin.
